The President of the Council, Faure Gnassingbé, received a special envoy from Tchadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno on Friday in Lomé. Key topics of discussion included strengthening bilateral cooperation, African integration, and the upcoming Africa Water Forum.

During the meeting, Gnassingbé met with Fatime Aldjineh Garfa, a ministerial delegate at the Tchadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who brought a message from Déby Itno. The envoy reiterated the two countries’ commitment to solidifying their bilateral cooperation.

The discussions also touched on the challenges of African integration and the development of water sector cooperation.

‘We bring a personal message from the President of the Republic, Head of State, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, to the President of the Council of the Republic, Faure Gnassingbé. We have also transmitted an official invitation from the Head of State to the Africa Water Forum, scheduled for July 15-16, 2026, in N’Djamena,’ said Garfa.

Set to take place on July 15-16, 2026, in the Tchadian capital, the Africa Water Forum is part of the Union of African Union’s Agenda 2063. It will bring together African leaders and technical partners around investments in hydraulic infrastructure across the continent.
