Ousmane Sonko mourns passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké
Ousmane Sonko, President of the National Assembly, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who died on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a public statement shared on Facebook, Sonko expressed profound sorrow over the loss of a revered religious figure whose influence extended far beyond his community. He extended his deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family, the General Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Sénégal.
The statement read: “With deep emotion and overwhelming sadness, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo.”
Sonko recalled the warm encounters he had with the late leader during official visits to Guinguinéo. “During my travels to the region, I had the honor of meeting this esteemed spiritual guide on multiple occasions. Each meeting was marked by his unwavering warmth, hospitality, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on all who were present,” he shared.
In this time of mourning, Sonko offered his sincere condolences to the bereaved family, the Mouride community, and the people of Sénégal. He concluded his message with a prayer: “May Allah, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise.”
