On Saturday, August 1, 2026, a joint security commission launched an extensive sweep across several high-crime areas within N’Djamena, Chad’s capital. This significant intervention, which brought together various law enforcement agencies and specialized security units—including the Garde Nationale et Nomade du Tchad (GNNT), the Gendarmerie Nationale, the Police Nationale, and the Police Judiciaire—resulted in the arrest of 252 individuals and the confiscation of numerous illicit items and substances.

The operation specifically targeted neighborhoods identified as criminal hotspots. These included Mandjakoli in the 5th arrondissement, Roma, Bildo, and Katanga in the 2nd arrondissement, as well as Colombie and other vulnerable sectors across the city.

According to Hachim Haroum Deby, the Director of Public Security, the crackdown led to the apprehension of both vendors and consumers of various narcotic substances. Among the seized items were drugs commonly referred to as « Colorado » and « Bongo », alongside quantities of adulterated alcohol.

The mission was carried out under the direct oversight of the Director General of the Gendarmerie Nationale, who also serves as the Deputy President of the joint control and verification commission. Key officials, including the 1st Deputy Police General Controller and the 2nd Deputy Commander of the Garde Nationale et Nomade du Tchad (GNNT), were also actively involved in supervising the operation.

Following the intervention, all 252 detained individuals were presented to the press. Security forces also displayed a range of confiscated goods, including various weapons, computers, mobile phones, and 25 motorcycles.

The comprehensive results of this impactful operation were subsequently presented to the Minister of Public Security and Immigration, General d’Armée Ali Ahmat Aghabache.

This initiative underscores the ongoing commitment of Chad’s internal security forces to bolster citizen safety, uphold public order, and combat all forms of criminality, particularly the trafficking and consumption of illicit substances, within the capital city. Such efforts are crucial for maintaining stability and security in the West Africa Sahel region.
