Gabonese president arrives in Gambia for four-day state visit

The President of Gabon, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, arrived in Banjul, Gambia, yesterday for a four-day working and friendship visit. He was warmly greeted by Gambian President Adama Barrow, with whom he held a private meeting followed by bilateral talks at the official residence. The discussions centered on reviewing existing cooperation areas and exploring new avenues for partnership between the two nations. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral ties and fostering sustainable economic development. An additional meeting is scheduled for today with his host.

This visit, aimed at strengthening the Libreville-Banjul axis, provides President Oligui Nguema with an opportunity to tour key government infrastructures and historical landmarks. Among the planned visits are the National Food and Drug Quality Control Laboratory in Brusubi, the University of Gambia, the National Emergency Treatment Center in Farato, and the Kachikally Crocodile Pool in Bakau.

Economic ties and cultural exchanges on the agenda

The visit also includes a state banquet hosted by President Barrow in honor of his distinguished guest. Gambia’s economy, primarily driven by tourism, agriculture, and re-export trade, has demonstrated a real GDP growth of 6.1%, supported by a thriving services sector.

This official trip by Gabon’s head of state is part of a broader program of state visits across Africa, particularly in West African countries.
