Former Ivorian Head of State and PPA-CI leader Laurent Gbagbo has announced a significant restructuring of his party’s leadership. In an official statement released this week, he detailed the appointment of four vice-presidents and a Chair of the Strategic and Political Council (CSP), each assigned specific responsibilities to enhance the party’s operational efficiency and cohesion.
Key appointments and their roles
The newly appointed First Vice-President, Assoa Adou, has been tasked with upholding the party’s statutes and internal regulations. His mandate includes ensuring that all party structures align with the founding principles and strategic vision of the PPA-CI.
Oulaye Hubert, named Second Vice-President, will oversee the party’s internal operations. He is responsible for presiding over Central Committee sessions in accordance with the party’s constitutional framework and Gbagbo’s directives.
The Third Vice-President, Ackan Emmanuel, has been charged with energizing the party’s political activities. His role involves revitalizing grassroots engagement and strengthening the party’s national presence, while maintaining alignment with the leadership’s strategic guidelines.
Justin Koné Katinan, the Fourth Vice-President, will spearhead the party’s broader political agenda. His responsibilities include coordinating policy development, monitoring implementation, and leading initiatives related to the party’s governance vision.
Sébastien Dano Djedje has been appointed Chair of the CSP, where he will serve as the party’s chief executive officer. In this capacity, he will supervise all operational and strategic functions of the PPA-CI.
A shift toward collective leadership
Gbagbo emphasized that this restructuring reflects a deliberate move toward a more collaborative leadership model. “The strength of our party lies not in a single individual, but in the unity and collective effort of its leaders and members working toward a shared vision,” he stated. He underscored that these changes are designed to reinforce the party’s efficiency, coherence, and ability to mobilize its base.
The decision to reorganize the party’s leadership was formally announced on May 16 during the PPA-CI Renaissance Day celebrations in Songon M’Bratté. The move marks a pivotal step in modernizing the party’s structure to better serve its members and the broader political landscape of Côte d’Ivoire.
