An initial six-point deduction handed to Chelsea has been overturned on appeal, with the Premier League side instead receiving a suspended transfer ban. The club avoided the more severe sanction after successfully challenging the ruling.

Football Association (FA) investigations revealed breaches between 2009 and 2022, predominantly during Roman Abramovich’s ownership era. Most irregularities occurred between 2010 and 2016. The current ownership team uncovered these issues when acquiring the club in 2022. Last September, the FA formally lodged 74 separate charges against Chelsea.

During Abramovich’s tenure from 2011 to 2018, Chelsea made £47 million (€54.5 million) in payments to unregistered intermediaries and third parties. Key transfers under scrutiny include Eden Hazard’s 2012 arrival from Lille, Samuel Eto’o’s 2013 move from Anzhi Makhachkala, Willian’s simultaneous arrival, André Schürrle’s 2013 signing from Bayer Leverkusen, Nemanja Matić’s 2014 transfer from Benfica, and David Luiz’s 2016 purchase from Paris Saint-Germain.
