Chad’s independence day: pahimi padacké albert appeals for unity and appeasement

As Chad prepares for its 66th Independence Day on August 11, 2026, Pahimi Padacké Albert, president of the National Rally of Chadian Democrats (RNDT-Le Réveil) and a prominent opposition leader, has issued a heartfelt plea for national unity, appeasement, and reconciliation.

In his address commemorating this significant national holiday, the former Prime Minister conveyed his message to the Chadian populace with a tone he described as one of «humility, gravity, and profound responsibility».

Padacké Albert highlighted that this year’s observance occurs amid a political landscape fraught with underlying tensions and widespread frustrations. «We commemorate our freedom this year within a climate of silent yet heavy political tension, compounded by frustrations stemming from a pervasive sense of multidimensional exclusion,» he asserted.

Responding to this challenging environment, the head of the RNDT-Le Réveil advocated for an intensified commitment to dialogue and openness. «Today, I once again responsibly appeal for unity, appeasement, a spirit of openness, and the reconciliation of hearts,» he continued.

Notably, Pahimi Padacké Albert’s message directly implored President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno to implement decisive actions aimed at strengthening national cohesion across Chad.

He stated, «As we stand on the cusp of this celebration, I solemnly call upon all Chadians, and foremost among them, the Marshal of Chad, President of the Republic, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno: May strong decisions be made to overcome feelings of exclusion and further unite our people within the Chadian family. May the constitutional means at the disposal of the Head of State be mobilized to restore freedom to political actors whose rightful place is not in prison. May a genuine political opening, built upon frank, fraternal, and patriotic discussions, solidify this momentum of appeasement, while respecting the rich political, cultural, and religious diversities of the nation’s sons and daughters.»
