SDF establishes election preparation commission ahead of 2027 polls
The Social Democratic Front (SDF), Cameroon’s leading opposition party, is taking decisive steps to prepare for the upcoming municipal and legislative elections scheduled for 2027. In a strategic move, the party’s National Executive Committee convened in Bamenda on June 13, 2026, to create a dedicated National Election Preparation Commission.
This technical body aims to streamline the party’s organizational structure and enhance its operational readiness for the elections. The commission will focus on transparency, efficiency, and proactive engagement to ensure the party is well-positioned for the electoral process.
Louis Marie Kakdeu appointed to lead election commission
The SDF has appointed Louis Marie Kakdeu, the party’s second vice president and former presidential campaign director for Joshua Osih in the October 2025 elections, as the director of this new commission. Kakdeu brings extensive expertise as an economist, university researcher, and specialist in budgetary, economic, and fiscal matters.
The commission’s mandate includes identifying and recruiting qualified candidates in underserved constituencies, revitalizing the SDF’s grassroots structures in its traditional strongholds, and organizing a robust campaign strategy for the upcoming legislative and municipal elections.
Kakdeu is widely recognized as a trusted figure within the party and a close ally of Joshua Osih. His appointment reflects the SDF’s commitment to restructuring its political offering at the grassroots level following recent electoral setbacks.
The creation of this commission underscores the SDF’s determination to strengthen its presence and ensure transparency in Cameroon’s electoral process.
