Government assures continuity of leadership
In a recent statement, René Emmanuel Sadi, Cameroon’s Minister of Communication and government spokesperson, confirmed that President Biya remains alive and continues to fulfill his duties. Speaking in an exclusive interview, Sadi also hinted at the president’s imminent return to Cameroon, though no specific date was provided.
This declaration marks the first official response from Cameroonian authorities since the president’s extended absence began, coming at a time when opposition voices have intensified calls for institutional transparency regarding Biya’s capacity to govern.
Opposition pressures prompt government rebuttal
Addressing concerns about a potential leadership gap, Minister Sadi firmly rejected claims of a power vacuum in Cameroon. “There is no vacancy in power,” he emphasized during the interview, adding that President Biya has neither resigned nor ceased performing his presidential functions.
Sadi criticized opposition figures for what he described as a skewed interpretation of the country’s constitutional framework. “The Fundamental Law must be applied with greater rigor and objectivity,” he stated, pushing back against assertions that the Constitutional Council had declared a power vacuum. “The Council has not issued any ruling to declare a vacancy in power,” he clarified.

When questioned about the president’s expected return, Sadi acknowledged the lack of a precise timeline. “I cannot provide an exact date for President Paul Biya’s return,” he admitted, though he reassured that the president would be back “very soon.”
