In a move to enhance accuracy and coverage, Cameroon’s government has extended the national census period for the second time. This decision, outlined in a decree by Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute, aims to reach more households, individuals, and agricultural operations nationwide.

Residents in major urban centers like Yaoundé and Douala have reported gaps in the enumeration process. Some newly developed neighborhoods were reportedly omitted from the initial mapping, leaving many households uncounted.

According to the census commission, only 60.4% of the population has been recorded since the first phase began in April. Challenges persist, including delayed payments to enumerators, which have sparked frustration, low participation in certain areas, and language barriers. Security concerns in high-risk zones have also hindered progress.
