President Diomaye’s stern message: a new era of political conduct in Senegal

During the official launch of his new political entity, KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains, the President of the Republic delivered a pointed address widely understood to be directed at his former Prime Minister. The Head of State issued an unequivocal caution: « Fii, saa fitnë dootufi nanee ñeex ». This powerful statement translates to a clear declaration: “Here, henceforth, what was previously tolerated will no longer be accepted.”

In his remarks, the founder of KIIRAAY – Les Patriotes Républicains underscored Senegal’s enduring legacy as a nation built on principles of stability and lasting peace. This significant public intervention unfolds against a backdrop of escalating friction between the two prominent figures of the executive branch. It also coincides with the ongoing restructuring of the presidential majority and the establishment of this new political party.

This development follows several months marked by overt disagreements between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and his former head of government, Ousmane Sonko. These differences have been evident in their distinct tones during national addresses and culminated in the definitive separation between the presidential coalition and Pastef.

Notably, Ousmane Sonko, who leads Pastef, has simultaneously initiated a membership card drive with his associates in recent days, indicating his own party’s strategic movements.
