Ousmane Sonko Falsification Case: Justice Maintains Pre-Trial Detention

The Dakar Court of Appeal has postponed the verdict in the Ousmane Sonko signature falsification case to July 23, 2026. The original date was set for July 9, 2026, but it was delayed due to Cherif Zeyni Abidin Sy’s absence, who is presented as the presumed accomplice of the defendant.

Meanwhile, the court has rejected Khardiata Tandian’s request for provisional release. Her lawyer argued that she met all the conditions required for such a measure, citing her over a year-long pre-trial detention, her marriage, and motherhood. The defense also claimed that the sentence could already be covered by this period of imprisonment and that extending it would have a severe impact on her social situation.

The prosecutor firmly opposed this request, arguing that releasing Khardiata Tandian would disrupt public order and that she did not present sufficient guarantees for representation in court. Although the defense argued that there was no risk of pressure on witnesses since the defendant had already been heard at the bar, the court followed the prosecution’s request. As a result, Khardiata Tandian remains detained until the case is resolved.
