Ousmane Sonko condemns Diomaye Faye’s drift from PASTEF’s vision in Sadio

The leader of PASTEF-Les Patriotes, Ousmane Sonko, delivered a scathing address this past Sunday in Sadio, within the Diourbel region, directly challenging the governance approach of the current administration.

Addressing a packed crowd of supporters, Sonko revisited the events that led to Bassirou Diomaye Faye‘s election as President of the Republic in March 2024. He recalled his own pivotal role in advocating for Faye’s candidacy after his own candidacy was disqualified.

« We propelled him to the highest office, yet he has strayed from the original vision, betraying the aspirations of the people who had pinned their hopes on him, » Sonko asserted, his words resonating with the crowd.

Highlighting what he described as a gradual departure from the movement’s founding principles, the opposition figure lamented the « vanished hope » and urged a return to the commitments made to the Senegalese people. He underscored his central role in shaping the 2024 political shift, claiming that much of the groundwork for the transition was laid under his leadership.

Looking ahead, Sonko emphasized the significance of the 2026 and 2029 elections as critical milestones for advancing PASTEF’s political agenda. His remarks come at a time when questions linger about the dynamics between the President and his Prime Minister, though no official response has been issued from the presidency yet.
