The President of the National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, is actively shaping his core team. In a new announcement made this Wednesday, he officially designated Maïmouna Dièye, who previously served as Minister of Family, Social Action, and Solidarity, to the crucial role of special technical advisor.

This directive from the parliamentary institution’s president outlines Maïmouna Dièye’s broad mandate, which includes overseeing Social Action, Family affairs, the Promotion of Women’s Rights, and the Protection of Children and other vulnerable segments of society, notably individuals living with disabilities. Her integration into the President of the National Assembly’s cabinet marks a strategic move. Reacting to her appointment, the former minister conveyed her sincere appreciation while underscoring the profound importance of her new responsibilities.

She articulated, “I perceive this appointment as a token of esteem, but more significantly, as a genuine summons to serve. It is a demanding service, one that brings me closer to the everyday realities of our most susceptible citizens – women, children, and people with disabilities – whose inherent dignity and fundamental rights must always remain at the forefront of governmental action.” Maïmouna Dièye further pledged to execute her duties “with unwavering loyalty” and “a steadfast commitment to the principles of justice, equity, and transformative change,” affirming her dedication to fulfilling the critical missions entrusted to her alongside the President of the National Assembly.
