Morocco’s Western Sahara sovereignty gains further us backing

The 27th anniversary of Morocco’s Throne Day on July 30 brought a significant diplomatic gesture from Washington. In a message to King Mohammed VI, the United States officially reaffirmed its recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Western Sahara region. The communication also emphasized strong support for Rabat’s proposed autonomy plan as the only viable path to resolving the long-standing territorial dispute.

Washington’s clear stance: «The United States recognizes Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports the Moroccan autonomy initiative as a serious, credible, and realistic foundation for a just and lasting solution,» stated the American president in the formal correspondence.

The White House leadership stressed that alternative approaches would only prolong an unacceptable status quo. «This dispute must end now,» the message declared, adding that the United States remains committed to driving progress toward this resolution.

Celebrating decades of us-Morocco friendship

In his congratulatory note to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people, the American president highlighted «250 years of American-Moroccan history and enduring friendship.» He described the bilateral relationship as «built on trust and mutual respect,» praising the Moroccan monarch’s «wise leadership» and role as «a pillar of stability» in the region.

The U.S. leader also commended Morocco’s «consistent commitment to peace, countering extremism, and protecting both American and Moroccan security,» particularly through its pivotal role in the Abraham Accords. «In this context,» he noted, «we will collaborate to enhance security across the Sahel region.»

Expanding economic and technological partnerships

On the economic front, the American president directed his administration to pursue «economic and social development initiatives with Morocco, including in the Western Sahara territory.» He pointed to key sectors such as technology, innovation, energy, artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense as focal points for strategic cooperation.

A shared vision for the future: «Together, we will build a new era,» the message concluded, calling for a relationship prioritizing the interests of both nations.
