Historic air link launched between casablanca and los angeles

In a groundbreaking move, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has inaugurated a direct flight route connecting Casablanca to Los Angeles, marking a historic milestone in African aviation. This direct connection is the first of its kind between the African continent and the Pacific coast of the United States.

The inaugural flight took off from Mohammed V International Airport at 04:00, embarking on a non-stop journey that lasted 12 hours. The timing of this launch coincides with the 250th anniversary of Moroccan-American diplomatic ties and the kickoff of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Morocco’s national team, the Atlas Lions, will compete.

Significance of the new route

« This direct flight represents a pivotal moment for Royal Air Maroc and for Africa’s role in global connectivity, » stated Hamid Addou, CEO of RAM. « By bridging the Atlantic and connecting Morocco to the West Coast of the United States, we are reinforcing our nation’s position as a key player on the international stage. »

Flight schedule and capacity

The new Casablanca-Los Angeles route will operate three times weekly, using state-of-the-art wide-body aircraft. Flights depart from Casablanca every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday at 04:00, arriving in Los Angeles at 08:20 local time. Return flights from California depart at 10:20, landing in Casablanca the following day at 05:25.

This expansion aligns with RAM’s strategic development plan, agreed upon with the government in July 2023. The initiative aims to solidify Casablanca’s reputation as a leading aviation hub, connecting Africa, Europe, and the Americas. It also addresses the growing demand from travelers, including the Moroccan diaspora, tourists, business professionals, and football fans attending the World Cup.

With this launch, Royal Air Maroc strengthens its presence in North America, complementing its existing direct routes to New York, Washington, Miami, Montréal, and Toronto.
