Côte d’Ivoire: Six PDCI Officials Released After Nine Months of Detention

After nine months of detention, six officials from the Ivorian opposition party, the Patriotic Movement for Renewal and Development (Patriot), have been released.

The officials were arrested in September 2025, during a period of intense political tension leading up to the presidential election.

According to sources close to the party, the release was part of a deal brokered by the government, although details were not disclosed.

The arrest and detention of opposition figures have been widely criticized as an attempt to silence dissenting voices in Ivorian politics.

Laurent Gbagbo, who was excluded from the presidential election, has also been released after serving time in prison. The situation remains tense, with many opposition supporters still in detention.
