UNESCO Mali joins 32nd national reforestation campaign kickoff
The Bureau of the UNESCO in Mali, led by its Acting Head and Representative Mr. Ali-Mohamed Sinane, actively participated in the official launch of the 32nd edition of the national reforestation campaign in Bamako on Saturday, July 26, 2026. The ceremony, held at the Palais des Pionniers, was presided over by General of Division Abdoulaye Maïga, Prime Minister and Head of Government, representing the President of the Transition and Head of State.
The event brought together key figures including government members, national institution representatives, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, private sector representatives, and women’s and youth associations. It also mobilized numerous stakeholders committed to environmental protection, sustainable natural resource management, and combating the impacts of climate change.
Campaign theme: Youth at the heart of environmental citizenship
The 32nd edition of the campaign, themed “Youth at the Heart of Environmental Citizenship for a Greener and More Resilient Mali”, aligns with national efforts to restore ecosystems, combat desertification, and preserve natural resources. The campaign places special emphasis on citizen mobilization, particularly among young people, as key actors in the ecological transition. The goal is to plant 21 million trees across Mali during the rainy season, contributing to the creation of a greener and more resilient nation.

By joining this national initiative, UNESCO reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Mali in raising community awareness, strengthening local capacities, and promoting innovative solutions to enhance ecosystem resilience against environmental and climate challenges.
