Tchad’s 2026 Grand Prix de la République boosts national horse racing with historic funding

In a landmark display of national pride, Chad’s President, His Excellency Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, made a resounding commitment to the advancement of the country’s equestrian sector during the 2026 Grand Prix de la République held at the Afrouk racecourse near N’Djamena. Standing before the crowd, the President observed the day’s races before unveiling a substantial financial boost aimed at revitalizing the sport. Addressing the gathering on behalf of the Head of State, the Minister of State and Director of the Presidential Cabinet, Aziz Mahamat Saleh, announced an unprecedented 50 million CFA franc contribution. The funds are earmarked to strengthen the equestrian industry, enhance racehorse breeding programs, and elevate the standard of national competitions.
