Sonko mourns the passing of serigne abdou bakhi mbacké
Dakar — The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, conveyed his heartfelt condolences following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the esteemed Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo. The religious leader’s death occurred this past Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In a Facebook post, Sonko expressed deep sorrow, honoring the late guide’s legacy while extending his sympathies to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mourides, and the entire Senegalese people.
« With profound emotion and immense grief, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who has been called to God, » Sonko wrote. He further reflected on his personal encounters with the revered spiritual leader during his visits to Guinguinéo.
« During my multiple visits to Guinguinéo, I had the honor of meeting him on several occasions. Each time, he welcomed me with warmth, affection, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on me, » Sonko recalled.
In this grievous moment, he extended his sincere condolences to the late leader’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mourides, Guinguinéo’s religious community, and all Senegalese.
« May God, in His boundless mercy, grant him forgiveness and welcome him into His eternal paradise, » he concluded.
