Ousmane Sonko mourns passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké in Senegal

The President of Senegal’s National Assembly, Ousmane Sonko, has conveyed his deep sorrow following the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the spiritual leader of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, which occurred on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Mr. Sonko paid tribute to the revered religious figure and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Grand Khalife of the Mouride Brotherhood, and the people of Senegal.

« With profound grief and deep sadness, I learned of the passing of Serigne Abdou Bakhi Mbacké, the Khalife of the Khassim Mbacké family in Guinguinéo, who has been called back to the Divine Presence, » he wrote.

The National Assembly leader also reflected on his encounters with the late guide during visits to Guinguinéo, recalling the warmth and hospitality extended to him and others.

« I had the honor of meeting the esteemed religious leader on multiple occasions during my visits to Guinguinéo. Each meeting was marked by his exceptional kindness, heartfelt welcome, and unwavering benevolence—qualities that left a lasting impression on all who met him, » he shared.

In this moment of sorrow, Ousmane Sonko offered his « sincerest condolences » to the bereaved family, the Grand Khalife of the Mourides, the religious community of Guinguinéo, and the entire Senegalese nation.
