Escalating threats in Lake Chad region as Boko Haram regroups
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno made a bold statement after a fresh assault by a Boko Haram offshoot: “We will intensify our countermeasures until this menace is completely neutralized.” His declaration followed an attack on a military outpost in Barka Tolorom, situated along the Chad side of Lake Chad, where insurgents killed 24 soldiers the day prior.
