On-the-ground report

The Mayor of N’Djamena, Mr. Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye, accompanied by key municipal officials, inspected the damaged Hilton outlet site on May 28, 2026. The visit was part of flood prevention efforts ahead of the upcoming rainy season.

During the assessment, Mr. Gadengar Roasna Rodrigue, Director of Urban Planning at the Central Municipality, highlighted the critical role of the Hilton outlet site in managing N’Djamena’s water drainage. He explained that the site channels rainwater toward the river while also serving as a protective barrier during river flooding.

The current damage, he noted, stems from a deteriorated floodgate that must be repaired urgently. Despite the issue, he confirmed that preparatory works are already underway to mitigate risks during the rainy season.

Following the inspection, Mayor Sanoussi Hassana Abdoulaye issued immediate directives to the Road Maintenance Department. His instructions were clear: repair the floodgate within the next few days to ensure the site’s functionality before heavy rainfall begins.
