Ousmane Sonko charts Pastef’s future: strategic meeting outlines national congress and party revitalization
With its inaugural national congress approaching in less than three weeks, the leadership of Pastef convened a crucial strategic meeting on Friday, May 15th. The assembly took place at the Cité Keur Gorgui residence of their esteemed leader, Ousmane Sonko, with the primary objective of initiating the party’s most significant structural evolution. Gathered around the table were prominent historical figures and pivotal lieutenants of the party, including El Malick Ndiaye, Birame Souleye Diop, Yassine Fall, Daouda Ngom, and Ayib Daffé, all responding to the urgent call.

The discussions were entirely shaped by the political agenda for the forthcoming weeks. The central focus revolved around the logistical and political dimensions of the national congress, which has been scheduled for June 6, 2026. While the precise venue remains under consideration, strong indications suggest Diamniadio as a potential location for this landmark event.

Sonko is deeply committed to ensuring the resounding success of the congress. The Pastef leader aims to unequivocally demonstrate that the party retains its full political influence and strategic capability. He conveyed a clear message to his inner circle: «We must make the congress a success and reinvigorate the party.» Beyond the immediate success of this gathering, Ousmane Sonko extensively emphasized the critical need to reorganize Pastef, aiming for enhanced clarity and public understanding of its mission.

The leader of the Patriots also addressed the imperative of remobilization. He articulated the necessity of engaging directly with communities, extending the party’s presence to even the most remote regions. Following the conclusion of the meeting, El Malick Ndiaye, a senior Pastef official and President of the National Assembly, shared his reflections on Facebook. He affirmed that «beyond the challenges, promising prospects are emerging for our nation and for our collective endeavor. These prospects, filled with hope, progress, and sovereignty, are what we will continue to build together, with unwavering faith, discipline, and commitment.
