LFP rejects Olympique Lyonnais’ plea to postpone opening ligue 1 match
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) has officially denied Olympique Lyonnais’ (OL) request to reschedule their inaugural Ligue 1 fixture of the 2026-2027 season. OL had sought a postponement for their away game against Toulouse, originally set for August 22, 2026, citing potential conflicts with their UEFA Champions League qualification campaign.
The Lyon-based club faces the prospect of a demanding schedule, with an anticipated Champions League play-off looming should they successfully navigate the third preliminary round. This potential European commitment prompted their appeal to the league authorities. However, the LFP has opted to maintain the original calendar, ensuring the Ligue 1 opening weekend proceeds as planned between August 21 and 23, 2026, including OL’s trip to Toulouse.
