The game, originally scheduled for the season’s final matchday, was brought to a premature end when supporters from the Loire Tribune invaded the pitch at the 20-minute mark.

In a strongly worded statement, Minister Ferrari declared that such behavior has “no place in sport or our Republic.” She went on to express her unwavering condemnation of the incidents, while extending her full support to both players and fair-weather fans who attended the match peacefully.

Ferrari emphasized that all responsible parties must be held accountable. She stated, “Identifying and prosecuting those responsible for these acts of violence will be pursued with the utmost severity.”

Nantes’ turbulent season ends with security failure

The abandoned match between the relegated side Nantes (17th) and mid-table Toulouse (10th) was heading for a 0-0 draw when the dramatic events unfolded. The invasion began when supporters from the Loire Tribune section stormed the pitch, launching smoke bombs onto the playing surface. While most of the invaders eventually returned to their stands under heavy police supervision, sporadic clashes continued to erupt around the stadium.

The French football authorities face renewed scrutiny over stadium security protocols following this incident. This comes after similar pitch invasions were reported at other Ligue 1 venues during the same weekend, including the conclusion of the Nice-Auxerre match.
