A shocking incident unfolded around 5 PM near the Goudjé Barrière roundabout in N’Djamena, Chad, as traffic police officers worked to manage vehicle flow and prevent significant congestion.

Initial accounts indicate that the driver of a Toyota Corolla, equipped with tinted windows, attempted to disregard directives from the on-duty officers and force his way through. A traffic brigade officer intervened, attempting to enforce regulations and reason with the driver. This quickly escalated into a heated altercation.

The individual, identified as an active police officer who had recently been removed from his post at the 3rd arrondissement police station, then brandished a pistol. He reportedly fired a warning shot into the air before aiming directly at the officers. Two agents sustained gunshot wounds, one of whom was hit in the ear. Fortunately, medical personnel have confirmed that their injuries are not life-threatening.

During the chaotic scene, other officers successfully subdued the aggressor and confiscated his weapon. However, before he was fully neutralized, the assailant also managed to stab another police officer in the forehead, right in front of the Goudjé Barrière roundabout.

The injured officers received immediate medical attention and were swiftly transported to a healthcare facility. Their recovery is being closely monitored, though initial reports offer reassurance regarding the condition of those who suffered gunshot wounds.

The assailant was taken into custody, handcuffed, and transported to the Police Secours facility at the General Directorate of Police. Several officers present at the scene observed that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during the incident.

Authorities have launched an investigation to thoroughly examine the precise circumstances surrounding this violent attack, which has caused considerable concern among both the public and law enforcement personnel present at the location. This incident highlights ongoing discussions around security in the Sahel region and internal police conduct in N’Djamena, Chad.
