Chad opposition leaders jailed: rajete urges president for clemency

The Chairman of the Rally for Justice and Equality in Chad (RAJET), Ordjei Abderahim Chaha, has issued a passionate plea to President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, urging clemency for imprisoned opposition leaders from the former GCAP coalition and the Transformateurs party.

In a strongly worded open letter, the political figure calls for the immediate release of these detainees, arguing that their continued imprisonment “taints” Chad’s democratic process and undermines public trust in the justice system. “Embracing opposition in its full form is the truest sign of political maturity—and the foundation of a thriving liberal democracy,” Ordjei Abderahim Chaha asserts.

The RAJET leader emphasizes that opposition is not a threat but a vital force that enriches democracy, fostering political vibrancy and safeguarding freedoms. He warns that suppressing dissent risks turning democracy into “cold ashes,” paving the way for authoritarianism. His appeal centers on the belief that opposition figures are essential pillars of democracy and deserve a place at the national dialogue table.

In his letter, Ordjei Abderahim Chaha also stresses the importance of national reconciliation, describing dialogue as the unifying force that fosters patriotism. He dismisses claims that imprisoned opponents oppose such efforts, insisting that true peace and progress emerge from inclusive discussions. “It is through dialogue that the light of peace and development shines brightest,” he states.

The political leader cautions the President against being misled by divisive influences, urging him to reject false narratives and manipulative reports that could fuel discord. He denounces those who spread disinformation as “gravediggers of the Republic,” calling on the Head of State to prioritize national unity over baseless accusations.

Concluding his appeal, Ordjei Abderahim Chaha demands the swift release of all political prisoners, insisting that their freedom is crucial for healing the nation’s deep divisions. “Only then can they join the dialogue to mend our nation’s wounds,” he declares.
