In N’Djamena, a pivotal meeting of the Joint National Steering Committee for the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2024-2026 recently convened. Tahir Hamid Nguilin, the Minister of State for Finance, Budget, Economy, Planning, and International Cooperation, co-chaired this significant gathering on Friday, May 22nd, at a local hotel.
The session saw extensive participation, including Dr. François Batalingaya, the UN Resident Coordinator for Chad, alongside various government officials, representatives from UN agencies, technical and financial partners, as well as stakeholders from civil society and the private sector.
This high-level assembly served a dual purpose: it concluded the evaluation of the ongoing 2024-2026 cooperation cycle and simultaneously initiated discussions for the upcoming 2027-2030 framework.
During his address, Minister Nguilin underscored the robust partnership between Chad, a key Sahelian nation, and the United Nations system. He highlighted the strategic importance of the meeting, reiterating the government’s commitment, through its National Development Plan « Tchad Connexion 2030 », to forge a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous Chad. Key pillars of this vision include human capital development, climate adaptation strategies, robust good governance, youth professional integration, and the empowerment of women.
« This steering committee session clearly demonstrates our shared commitment to maintaining perfect synergy between UN interventions and Chad’s national priorities, » Minister Nguilin affirmed. « By validating the 2026 work plans and laying the groundwork for the 2027-2030 cycle, we are reaffirming our dedication to inclusive growth that leaves no one behind. »
For his part, Dr. François Batalingaya emphasized that the evaluation of the 2024-2026 cycle confirmed the strength of their joint efforts. « As we finalize this phase, our focus is already shifting to the future, » he stated. « The new UNSDCF for 2027-2030 will embody a renewed ambition to effectively address financing needs and fulfill the aspirations of the Chadian population. »
Discussions delved into insights gained from the current cycle and identified strategic areas for the 2027-2030 period, particularly focusing on development financing, social inclusion, and enhanced resilience. The forthcoming cooperation framework is set to align seamlessly with the directives outlined in the « Tchad Connexion 2030 » National Development Plan.
