Cameroon’s representation at the AU summit

Despite his recent high-profile return to Yaoundé, President Paul Biya will not be physically present at the African Union’s extraordinary session, scheduled for August 30. Instead, he has entrusted Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute with the significant responsibility of representing Cameroon’s interests at this vital gathering.

Our reports indicate that the Head of Government departed from Yaoundé on Saturday, bound for Luanda, Angola. This special session is specifically dedicated to enhancing Africa’s mechanisms for African Union conflict prevention and resolution. Key regional challenges under consideration include the Boko Haram insurgency, a significant security Sahel concern affecting Cameroon’s Far North, and the ongoing separatist crisis in the country’s Anglophone regions.

Following his engagement in Angola, the Prime Minister is set to travel to Serbia. There, he will again act as President Paul Biya’s representative at a high-level meeting commemorating the 65th anniversary of the inaugural Conference of Heads of State and Government of Non-Aligned Countries. These proceedings are slated to take place in Belgrade from August 31 to September 1, 2026.
