Nantes tuluose match halted as angry fans storm stadium pitch
Nantes vs Toulouse match abandoned after home fans storm pitch
Frustrated by FC Nantes’ imminent relegation, supporters invaded the Beaujoire pitch mid-game, forcing a halt in proceedings.
The final round of Ligue 1 action between FC Nantes and Toulouse took an unexpected turn on Sunday, May 17, when the match was suspended barely 20 minutes in. Both sides had nothing left to play for, with Nantes already confirmed as relegated to Ligue 2 while Toulouse sat in mid-table with no European ambitions.
The score remained 0-0 when a group of several dozen Nantes supporters, dressed in black and some wearing club-colored hoods, broke through security barriers in the Loire Stand. They stormed onto the pitch carrying flares, prompting players from both teams to abandon the game and retreat to the dressing rooms.
Coach vents frustration after near-confrontation
Vahid Halilhodzic, Nantes’ head coach, attempted to confront the pitch invaders but was restrained by a member of his staff. His visible anger was later captured on camera during an outburst inside the locker room.
Although most of the intruders eventually returned to their stands, the match remained suspended. Broadcast commentators noted that a crisis meeting involving Ligue 1 officials and local authorities was underway to determine the game’s fate.
