Dakar mayor slams chaotic start to patriotic hike after Sonko’s early exit

The Prime Minister, Ousmane Sonko, cut short his participation in Sunday’s patriotic group hike organized by Dakar’s Mayor Abass Fall, themed “Marching Toward 2029.”

Witnesses reported that the government leader had to leave the event early after a sudden surge of attendees overwhelmed the starting zone. The incident left Mayor Fall visibly disappointed by the lack of discipline among some participants.

Expressing frustration, Abass Fall stated, “We have a real problem here. You cannot invite top officials and expect people to act without discipline. This is unacceptable. We came to walk together, so why can’t everyone follow basic rules? Because of this chaos, he had to leave.”

When questioned about the visible support Sonko received from political supporters during the hike, Fall emphasized the importance of combining enthusiasm with responsibility. He stressed, “Affection must go hand in hand with intelligence. People need to act wisely. This is a serious issue.”
