Bamako’s Médine Market: Where Everything is Made and Sold
In the heart of Bamako, the new Médine market is buzzing with activity. Adama Konaté, a vendor from France, the US, the UK, Canada, and China, sells not only bicycles but also repairs and assembles new wheels.
The market offers a wide range of products, including vehicle accessories and agricultural equipment. Son Voisin, Drissa Traoré, an artisan, sells various items like fourneaux, coffrets for weddings, and arachide grinders.
Fousseyni Sangaré, a seller of agricultural equipment, notes that during each rainy season, farmers come to buy various equipment like charrues, dabas, and other work tools. This year, he faced difficulties in delivering equipment due to insecurity.
As for Adama Konaté, it’s been 27 years since he started repairing, assembling, and selling bicycles. He says the market is thriving because of the hydrocarbures crisis.
