Mauritanian and moroccan military leaders strengthen strategic ties in Nouakchott
High-level military engagement between Morocco and Mauritania reached new heights as General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, concluded a working visit to Nouakchott.
On the official agenda, General Berrid was granted an audience with Mauritania’s President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghezouani, accompanied by Morocco’s Ambassador to Mauritania, Hamid Chabar. The meeting underscored the deepening diplomatic and military collaboration between the two nations.
Later that day, General Berrid visited the Ministry of Defense headquarters, where Mauritania’s Defense Minister Hanana Ould Sidi presented him with the Commander grade of the National Order of Merit on behalf of the President. This gesture symbolized the strong ties and mutual respect between the two countries.
Following the formalities, General Berrid and Mauritania’s Chief of Staff co-chaired the sixth session of the Joint Military Commission. Discussions centered on reviewing the progress of ongoing defense initiatives and reaffirming both nations’ commitment to regional security.
The military leaders highlighted the exceptional outcomes of their bilateral cooperation, describing it as a prime example of strategic partnership in the region. They praised the tangible results achieved through shared efforts, which have significantly strengthened defense ties.
