Ziguinchor leaders urge calm amid Senegal’s leadership tensions
In Ziguinchor, a prominent voice has raised concerns over the current political climate in Senegal, calling for national unity and resilience. Speaking on iRadio, Chérif Bouna Samsidine Aïdara emphasized that the country is navigating “challenging times,” urging leaders to prioritize peace and stability.
Leadership must embrace resilience, says Ziguinchor figure
Highlighting the tensions at the highest levels of government, Aïdara stressed the need for dialogue and cooperation between President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko. “Our leaders must have the space to work together and resolve differences,” he noted. “The head of state and the prime minister must embody resilience, embracing the values of the International Day of Peace to guide Senegal toward a brighter future.”
Public anxiety grows over political instability
Aïdara acknowledged the widespread unease among Senegalese citizens, who fear the impact of ongoing leadership disputes. “What we see and hear in the media does not reassure us,” he said. “Senegalese people are worried. We do not want our nation to endure such instability at the highest levels.”
Direct appeal to Faye and Sonko for dialogue
In closing, the Ziguinchor representative made a heartfelt plea to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, urging them to choose dialogue over confrontation. “For the sake of our country, let peace and reconciliation prevail,” he concluded.
