Gabon: RPM backs President Oligui Nguema but demands concrete action
The Rassemblement pour la Patrie et la Modernité (RPM), a key political party within the presidential majority in Gabon, has lauded President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema for his intensive efforts and dedication to the nation during the month of August. In an official statement signed by spokesperson Etienne Francky Meba Ondo, the party highlighted the rapid pace of presidential initiatives.
Under the theme “From action to results,” the political group expressed strong support for recent healthcare reforms, tangible regional developments, and the head of state’s active field presence across the provinces of Gabon.
Major investments in healthcare and infrastructure
Particular focus was placed on the 55 billion CFA francs funding package announced in Makokou on August 30 to upgrade the medical sector. This major financial boost allocates 44 billion CFA francs to modernize national hospital equipment, 6 billion CFA francs to reinstate catering services in medical facilities, and 5 billion CFA francs to bolster the National Social Guarantee and Health Insurance Fund (CNAMGS). The RPM considers these measures highly responsive to the urgent needs of citizens and urges rapid execution of these commitments.
The party also pointed to the launch of key security, administrative, commercial, and medical facilities in the Greater Libreville area, alongside 17 major developmental projects initiated in Ogooué-Ivindo during the Independence Day celebrations in Makokou. Furthermore, the housing initiative in Mayiga, which has delivered 50 housing units with 25 more currently under construction out of a projected 500 serviced plots, demonstrates a clear strategy to decentralize development beyond the capital city.
Decentralising development and delivering results
Reflecting on the double celebration of Gabon’s 66th Independence anniversary and the third anniversary of the coup of liberation, the RPM echoed the president’s own words: “The time for promises must give way to the time for proof.” Fully embracing this standard, the party emphasizes that the ultimate test of these government policies lies in their tangible impact on the daily lives of Gabon’s population.
On the diplomatic front, the political group welcomed the official visit of DRC President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo to Libreville, which culminated in the signing of three bilateral cooperation agreements.
Diplomatic steps and future outlook
Encouraging the government to maintain this momentum, the RPM stressed the need for steady project execution, sustainable infrastructure management, and expanded employment opportunities for the youth. The party reaffirmed its loyalty to national unity and modernization while preserving its political autonomy.
Led by Alexandre Barro Chambrier, who serves as the Vice President of Gabon, the RPM joined the ruling coalition supporting Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema in the presidential election of April 12, 2025, and maintains three seats in the National Assembly.
