UNESCO Yaounde hosts Chad delegation to boost digital education

Central Africa’s UNESCO regional office supports countries in transforming their education systems through practical strategies.

A five-day study mission focused on best practices for integrating Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education was held in Yaoundé from April 20 to 24, 2026. The delegation from Chad examined innovative approaches to modernize its education system, ensuring quality, inclusivity, and equity for all learners.

This initiative aligns with Chad’s strategic priorities, including the 2022–2026 National Development Plan, the Tchad Connexion 2030 vision, the National Teacher Policy (PNET), and the School Refoundation Program (PRET). These initiatives are supported by the Global Partnership for Education and implemented with assistance from UNESCO and UNICEF.

In a challenging environment with structural constraints, ICT integration emerges as a key driver for improving teaching quality, expanding access to education, and strengthening governance in Chad’s education sector. The PRET aims to introduce gradual digital transformation through practical, accessible, and low-tech solutions tailored to local realities.

The mission drew on Cameroon’s experience, recognized for its advancements in digital education across formal and non-formal sectors. The Tchadian delegation engaged with Cameroonian counterparts to identify transferable strategies and adapt them to Chad’s context.

Meetings at Cameroon’s Ministry of Basic Education (MINEDUB) brought together specialized departments, academic partners, and key institutions. Discussions covered pedagogical models, curriculum development, organizational frameworks, and infrastructure for ICT integration.

The exchange also highlighted teacher training programs, digital tools, institutional coordination mechanisms, and partnerships supporting the education system’s digital transformation.

Beyond experience sharing, the mission employed a rigorous methodology combining document analysis, stakeholder interviews, field observations, and collaborative workshops. This approach aimed to identify success factors, document transferable practices, and tailor recommendations to Chad’s unique needs.

The expected outcomes include a detailed mission report, actionable recommendations, and a prioritized action plan to support ICT integration in Chad’s education system.

Regional cooperation for more resilient education systems

This initiative underscores the UNESCO regional office’s role as a facilitator of cooperation and innovation among Central African states. It contributes to a broader regional effort to establish sustainable mechanisms for sharing best practices.

By fostering mutual learning and adapting proven solutions, the mission strengthens the resilience of education systems and accelerates their digital transformation.
