Gabon’s economic discussions with the IMF continue

Gabon is actively engaged in negotiations and technical preparations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to establish a new framework for economic cooperation. The nation consistently upholds its dialogue with this long-standing partner. Officials emphasize that discussions between the Gabonese government and the IMF are ongoing, characterized by a constructive and accountable atmosphere.

Since the conclusion of the spring meetings in April, both Gabonese representatives and IMF teams have maintained consistent virtual exchanges. These videoconferences adhere to a mutually agreed schedule, primarily focusing on technical work. A notable in-person meeting occurred on July 2, 2026, in Washington, at the IMF headquarters. Thierry Minko, Gabon’s Minister of Economy, Finance, Debt, and Participations, who also oversees efforts against the high cost of living, held a cordial discussion with the IMF’s Africa Director and their team, including Aliona Cebotari, the mission chief for Gabon.

Our administration confirms that the ongoing dialogue is guided by a collaboratively established and cohesive roadmap. This framework centers on several key areas: the rectified finance law for 2026, the macroeconomic and budgetary outlines for the 2027-2029 period, the gradual consolidation of economic, financial, and budgetary data, and the strategic planning for subsequent stages of engagement with the Fund.
