President tshisekedi launches inclusive national dialogue in DRC

President Félix Tshisekedi has unveiled the framework for a comprehensive national dialogue, a long-standing demand from the opposition, aimed at re-establishing peace and reforming the state in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This pivotal initiative is set to commence across the nation’s 26 provinces before concluding in Kinshasa, with a projected duration not exceeding three months.

The dialogue is designed to be broadly inclusive, inviting participation from the ruling majority, opposition factions, civil society organizations, religious denominations, and diverse segments of the population. However, a significant exclusion remains: groups actively engaged in armed conflict will not be part of the discussions. This raises critical questions about the potential for genuine success, particularly in achieving lasting peace in the conflict-ridden eastern regions of the DRC, if key armed actors are not at the table.
