FC Nantes remains outraged after the abandoned Ligue 1 match against Toulouse. While the French Football League (LFP) has referred the case for review with a decision expected at its meeting on May 27, the club issued a statement on Monday afternoon via its official website.
« While FC Nantes acknowledges the distress and frustration stemming from an exceptionally tough season and the relegation, the club’s values, history, and identity cannot be trampled by such acts, » the statement reads. « Anger and disappointment cannot justify the actions of masked individuals storming the pitch at the Stade de la Beaujoire, creating an atmosphere of intimidation and tension. A football stadium must remain a popular, festive, and secure space for everyone. »
Nantes calls for unity, calm, and respect
The club extended its gratitude to the « vast majority of supporters » who remained calm despite the circumstances, as well as to the security teams and authorities mobilized throughout the evening. FC Nantes affirmed it would « fully cooperate with authorities, the LFP, and state services to ensure all events are thoroughly investigated and responsibilities clarified. » The club concluded with an appeal for « unity, calm, and respect to prepare for the upcoming season under the best possible conditions. »
