Ebola bundibugyo outbreak in drc sees 19 recoveries as ituri remains epicentre
Since the official declaration of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease on 15 May in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, response mechanisms have been deployed, enabling rapid treatment across the affected health zones in Ituri, North Kivu and South Kivu. As of now, 19 patients have recovered and been discharged from the Ebola treatment centre, according to data from the National Institute of Public Health.
Health data up to 7 June show 550 confirmed cases, including 101 deaths, across all affected health zones. Currently, 309 patients remain in isolation for treatment.
Ituri province continues to be the epicentre of the outbreak. Of the 25 affected health zones, 17 are located in Ituri, representing nearly half of the 36 health zones in the province.
The affected zones include Aru, Aungba, Bambu, Bunia, Damas, Gety, Kilo, Komanda, Lita, Logo, Mambasa, Mangala, Mongbwalu, Nizi, Nyankunde, Rimba and Rwampara.
