Cameroun unveils plan to upgrade transport and logistics network
The Government of Cameroon is advancing a bold initiative to transform the nation’s transportation and logistics infrastructure, positioning the country as a key economic hub in Central Africa. A two-day workshop held on June 24 and 25, 2026, brought together senior officials, international consultants, and financial partners to finalize strategic plans aimed at modernizing the country’s road, rail, and logistics systems.
New Regulatory Agency and National Logistics Strategy Unveiled
During the session, officials from the Ministry of Transport presented two pivotal studies: one for the creation of the Transport Regulation Agency (ARTT) and another for the National Logistics Strategy (SLN)—both designed to guide development through 2035. Among the attendees were Mbamome Nkendong Divine, Director of Road Transport, and Claude Misse Ntone, Director of Rail Transport, alongside experts from World Bank and African Development Bank.
The ARTT is proposed to be headquartered in Yaoundé, with initial oversight focused on road transport before expanding to other modes. The agency would require an initial investment of 260 million CFA francs, covering institutional setup, office infrastructure, and essential IT equipment.
Logistics Strategy Targets 40 Billion Euro Rail Expansion
The National Logistics Strategy (SLN) outlines an eight-point action plan prioritizing rail infrastructure upgrades. Total investment is estimated at €40 billion, with strong emphasis on inter-ministerial coordination through a proposed National Logistics Council to oversee implementation and resolve cross-sector challenges.
In closing remarks, the Director of Road Transport commended the depth of contributions from all stakeholders and urged continued collaboration to ensure the next phases of these transformative projects advance smoothly.
