Pierre Emmanuel Binyam clarifies Maurice Kamto’s party departure amid 2026 presidential bid
In a recent television interview on STV’s “Entretien avec” program, the newly appointed chair of the Commission for Clarification and Restoration—established by Maurice Kamto—addressed the political landscape following Kamto’s controversial exit from his party to pursue a presidential candidacy.
Clarifying a political move
Pierre Emmanuel Binyam, a prominent figure within the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC), recently addressed the party’s internal dynamics following Maurice Kamto’s unexpected resignation to contest the 2026 presidential election under a different political banner. His remarks shed light on the party’s current stance and its efforts to regroup after a significant setback.
«Maurice Kamto’s departure from the party was not a true resignation. We sent him on a mission. Now, after the developments, he has returned. We have urged him to come back and complete his mandate,» Binyam explained during the interview.
The MRC member emphasized the emotional toll the rejection of Kamto’s candidacy had on party members. «The disqualification of Maurice Kamto’s bid deeply affected us. The loss of our candidate—who was widely expected to win both nationally and internationally according to polls—was a major blow to the party’s morale,» he added.
Binyam’s statements reflect the party’s resilience amid political turbulence, as it navigates the implications of Kamto’s controversial decision and the upcoming electoral challenges.
