Bujumbura: rdc political crisis discussions draw opposition and religious figures
- Politics
The Burundian capital, Bujumbura, is currently hosting pivotal consultations focused on the political landscape of the Democratic Republic of Congo (RDC). These significant discussions were initiated by Évariste Ndayishimiye, who serves as both Burundi’s head of state and the current chairman of the African Union.
Leading figures from the C64 opposition coalition have arrived in Bujumbura for these crucial talks. Among them are Martin Fayulu, Delly Sesanga, Dieudonné Bolengetenge, Jean Marc Kabun, and Francklin Tshiamala. They are scheduled to engage in direct meetings with President Ndayishimiye to present their perspectives on the RDC’s challenges.
Religious communities are also playing an integral role in these comprehensive exchanges. Archbishop Ejiba Yamapia, who presides over the Platform of Religious Confessions and Revival Churches in the RDC, has traveled to Bujumbura. He is joined by delegations representing the influential Catholic Church and the Church of Christ in Congo (ECC), underscoring the broad spectrum of stakeholders involved.
This gathering in Bujumbura marks a concerted effort to bring together both the political opposition and the nation’s primary religious institutions. Their collective aim is to seek pathways towards resolving the persistent political crisis currently facing the Democratic Republic of Congo.
