Algeria and Niger expand health cooperation through strategic partnership

Algeria and Niger have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their health sector collaboration following the second session of the Great Joint Commission between the two nations. According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, this initiative is part of a broader strategic vision to establish a resilient and effective partnership between the two neighbors.

During the meetings held this week in Niamey, the Algerian Minister of Health, Mohamed Seddik Aït Messaoudène, met with his counterpart from Niger, Garba Hakimi. Both officials emphasized a shared desire to boost bilateral ties through a sustainable framework that mirrors the strong fraternal connection between Algeria and Niger. This high-level dialogue provided an opportunity to evaluate current joint efforts and explore new avenues for development that serve the mutual interests of both populations.

The discussions highlighted several technical priorities, including the advancement of medical and paramedical training programs. Furthermore, the two parties explored ways to broaden cooperation in specialized medical fields, such as kidney transplantation and the expansion of telemedicine. These technological integrations are expected to enhance the quality of patient care and make specialized health services more accessible.

Promoting hospital twinning and infrastructure development

As part of the new agreements, both countries decided to encourage twinning projects between hospital institutions and support the growth of healthcare infrastructure. Coordination will also be intensified regarding preventive medicine and the management of regional infectious diseases. A key component of this plan is the creation of a dedicated center for monitoring tropical diseases in the wilaya of Tamanrasset.

Additionally, the digitalization of the healthcare system was identified as a critical area of focus. Both ministers stressed the importance of adopting digital tools for health system management and improving information infrastructure. These steps aim to optimize governance and increase the overall efficiency of medical services across both Algeria and Niger.
