Algeria and Chad advance trans-saharan road project in N’Djamena

Minister of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, Abdelkader Djellaoui, commenced a significant two-day working visit to the Republic of Chad this Wednesday. Leading a high-level delegation, the minister aimed to explore practical strategies for advancing joint infrastructure initiatives, with particular emphasis on the crucial Trans-Saharan Road project.

This diplomatic engagement directly follows directives issued by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and builds upon discussions held during the recent visit of the Chadian President to Algeria. It underscores a shared commitment to fostering a tangible and pragmatic dimension in bilateral cooperation, ultimately serving the developmental aspirations of both nations.

Minister Djellaoui, accompanied by Abed Hallouz, the Director-General of the Algerian Agency for International Cooperation, Solidarity, and Development (AICA), landed at N’Djamena’s Hassan Djamous International Airport on Wednesday evening. Chadian Minister of Infrastructure, Disenclavement, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Kourda, along with several other Chadian officials, extended a warm welcome to the Algerian delegation.

Comprising over 14 experts and engineers, the Algerian delegation is undertaking its second mission to the Republic of Chad. Their objective is to build upon the technical expertise initiated during their prior visit. Notable members include the CEOs of « Cosider Travaux Publics » and the National Public Works Company (SNTP), as well as the Director-General of the National Technical Control Body for Public Works (CTTP).

Public works are recognized as a cornerstone of cooperation between Algeria and Chad, serving as a primary catalyst for economic integration. Algeria maintains a strong commitment to the Trans-Saharan Road project, viewing it as a strategic artery designed to forge lasting economic connections between both nations and across the wider region. Consequently, this visit primarily focuses on the tangible implementation of two specific sections of the Trans-Saharan Road within Chadian territory, which are critical links in this vital continental network.

Leveraging the extensive experience its national enterprises have gained in constructing major road infrastructure, particularly in challenging Saharan environments, Algeria is dedicating its expertise and technical prowess to this ambitious undertaking. This collaboration aims to catalyze a significant transformation and inject new dynamism into regional trade flows.

The delegation anticipates that this visit will yield concrete outcomes, substantially fortifying Algerian-Chadian cooperation in the crucial sectors of infrastructure and public works.
