Sénégal : la FSF sous pression après l’échec des Lions

Following the national team’s early exit from the 2026 World Cup and the coach’s departure, sports figures in Dakar are demanding an audit of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) during a recent public demonstration.

The early elimination of the Lions of Teranga from the 2026 World Cup continues to reverberate across Sénégal, with new revelations deepening the shock among many football enthusiasts.

Mamadou Laila Diallo, a devoted follower of Senegalese football, expressed his dismay at the recent statements made by Abdoulaye Fall, the president of the Senegalese Football Federation. Fall publicly attributed the national team’s disappointing performance solely to the former coach. Diallo vehemently criticized these remarks, labeling them as “catastrophic” and an apparent attempt to deflect blame and mask the federation president’s own shortcomings. While acknowledging that Pape Thiaw’s departure might be justified from a sporting perspective, Diallo insisted that the coach was not the sole culprit in the team’s failure.

The public outcry has extended to social media platforms, where numerous Senegalese citizens are advocating for the complete dissolution of the federation. Malang Sané, a proponent of this radical change, stressed the necessity of such a move for a fundamental overhaul of Senegalese football. Sané argued that simply replacing individuals at the helm without reforming the core institutional framework would prove futile, emphasizing that this should be the primary focus for authorities.

“Opportunism within the federation must be exposed”

However, Djibril Diata offered a contrasting perspective, warning that dissolving the FSF could plunge Senegalese football into an unprecedented crisis. Instead, Diata advocated for a thorough inquiry to fully ascertain accountability. He highlighted the belief that many undisclosed issues contributed to the World Cup outcome, suggesting that a significant number of “opportunists” within the federation have been prioritizing personal gain. Diata called for these hidden practices to be brought to light.

Amidst the escalating tensions, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has intervened. In an official communiqué released this Tuesday, the ministry directed the Football Federation to immediately cease all public statements, declarations, and media engagements pertaining to the recent World Cup events.

The organizers of Tuesday’s public mobilization stated their primary objective is to foster greater transparency and uphold good governance standards within Senegalese sports.
