Senegal minister slams baseless claims against touba’s integrity
The Minister of Land and Air Transport, Abdoul Ahad Ndiaye, has strongly refuted allegations made by opposition leader Ousmane Sonko regarding illicit funds allegedly flowing into the holy city of Touba. Speaking on national television, the minister condemned Sonko’s remarks as an unacceptable insult to the spiritual values and dignity of Touba’s residents.
« To equate Touba—its people and its centuries-old Mouride heritage—with money laundering is not just wrong, it’s a deep betrayal of the values instilled by Serigne Touba himself, » Ndiaye declared. He emphasized that the city’s inhabitants are known for their unwavering commitment to faith and moral integrity, making such accusations entirely baseless.
Ndiaye also pointed to the absence of local leaders during Sonko’s visit as a clear sign of collective rejection of the opposition leader’s narrative. « The people of Touba do not engage in such transactions. Their devotion is their wealth, and no amount of slander will change that, » he asserted.
Highlighting the government’s dedication to the region, the minister praised President Bassirou Diomaye Faye for his deep respect for Touba’s spiritual and cultural significance. « The President understands the soul of this city and its people. His policies reflect that understanding every day, » Ndiaye noted.
He further commended Prime Minister Mouhamadou Al Amine Lo for his relentless efforts in resolving long-standing issues, calling his leadership « exemplary » under the President’s guidance. Ndiaye’s remarks underscored a broader message to the nation: unity over division.
« Senegal must rise above political squabbles and focus on progress. President Faye’s integrity is unshaken, and his sole mission is to uplift this country. Despite relentless attacks, he remains steadfast in his commitment to the people, » the minister concluded.
