Salmata Sawadogo wins Burkina Faso’s top women’s award for 2026

The fourth edition of the Mousso d’Or honors brought together outstanding Burkinabè women whose dedication, leadership, and achievements are driving the nation’s progress forward. Held in Ouagadougou on June 6, 2026, the event served as a platform to celebrate female excellence across multiple sectors.

At the heart of the ceremony, Salmata Sawadogo, CEO of Salmata Commerce Général, was crowned the Mousso d’Or 2026 laureate, a recognition of her entrepreneurial journey and her tireless efforts to empower women economically.

Salmata Sawadogo took the stage to express her heartfelt gratitude to the organizers and everyone who supported her journey. She viewed the award not just as a personal triumph but as a call to action for more women to embrace entrepreneurship and unlock their full potential.

Other winners included Talato Ouédraogo, who claimed the Gold Nugget prize, while the association Wend Guetta took home the Association Award. Charlotte Milliogo of USFA was honored in the Sports category, Mam Sank in Culinary Arts, and Almaty Meria in the Musician category.

Each laureate received a trophy, a ceremonial sash, and a certificate of recognition. A special honor was also awarded to Adja Abibou Sana Ouédraogo for her lifelong dedication and impact.

The ceremony further celebrated the contributions of the Forces de défense et de sécurité (FDS) and the Volontaires pour la défense de la patrie (VDP), recognizing their pivotal role in safeguarding peace and social cohesion.

Mohamado Sanfo, the event’s commissioner-general, highlighted the Mousso d’Or’s mission to spotlight women excelling in their fields. « When a woman thrives, an entire family thrives », he remarked, emphasizing the ripple effect of female empowerment.

Sanfo also underscored the event’s commitment to social initiatives, including a program supporting forty widows of fallen FDS soldiers with training and resources to foster their independence.

Despite past challenges, he expressed pride in the event’s growth and the growing enthusiasm it generates each year. « Challenges have tested our resolve, but passion keeps us moving forward. This year’s strong turnout reflects the nation’s commitment to championing women’s progress », he shared.

In total, sixteen categories, seven special awards, and one honorary trophy were presented during the fourth edition. Talato Ouédraogo, the Gold Nugget winner, praised the initiative for motivating women to strive for greatness. « To every woman dreaming of taking the leap—do it unapologetically. Today, female excellence is celebrated and encouraged », she advocated.

The Mousso d’Or 2026 once again reaffirmed its mission to honor women whose hard work, resilience, and commitment are shaping a brighter future for Burkina Faso.
