Ouragahio commune assesses its women’s empowerment initiatives

Ouragahio, a vibrant commune in Côte d’Ivoire, recently undertook a comprehensive evaluation of its robust women’s empowerment policy. This assessment, spearheaded by Mayor Dr. Pierre Dacoury-Tabley, unfolded during a special tribute event for the commune’s women, affectionately known as ‘Mother’s Day.’ The ceremony, held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, in the courtyard of the town hall, also saw the esteemed presence of local sub-prefect Tié-Bi Assi Apo Josiane.

The initiatives under review spanned a wide array of crucial areas. Significant efforts were directed towards educational advancement, including literacy programs and fundamental accounting training specifically tailored for women entrepreneurs. Health provisions were also a cornerstone, with a strong focus on maternal and child healthcare, alongside the expansion of maternity services and health centers throughout the communal territory. Mayor Dacoury-Tabley emphasized that these measures are designed to ensure mothers remain healthy, enabling them to actively participate in and lead their own empowerment endeavors.

In the realm of commerce, Dr. Dacoury-Tabley highlighted the commencement of construction for a new gastronomic hub. This facility, featuring multiple retail spaces, is envisioned as a prime opportunity to showcase the exceptional culinary talents and capabilities of the local women. The ultimate goal remains to empower these mothers to generate sustainable income and achieve financial independence.

Furthermore, the empowerment strategy extends to agricultural projects. Women engaged in farming receive vital support through the provision of agricultural workers, easing their workload and boosting productivity in the fields.
